Abstract

This thesis examines the influence of the Arabic Bible on literature in Egypt and the Levant. The author employs the tools of the Marxist Literary criticism developed by Terry Eagelton. The focus of the study is the 100 years from the sixties of the 19th to the sixties of the 20th centuries. She examines in detail some examples for literary authors such as al-Shidyak, Faraḥ Anṭūn, Ahmad Shawqī, Ibrahim al-Māznī, Tawfīq al-ḥakīm, Mahmoud Darwīsh, and many others.
