Abstract

In this short note, the author draws attention to the fact that the Arabic translation of the divine epithet from Ex 3,14 which is mentioned in al-Maghribī's dictionary of the Egyptian dialect agrees with the wording found in a Samaritan Arabic translation of the Pentateuch. In the author's opinion, this can be taken as an indication of the cultural influence of the Samaritan community in Cairo.
