Abstract

On pp. 8–11, in their discussion of early non-Saadianic Arabic Bible translations, the authors posit the probable Qaraite provenance of a two-leaf fragment in the Taylor-Schechter Collection containing Judaeo-Arabic translation of Prov 16:24–17:26 (first discussed by Blau in his 1992 article https://biblia-arabica.com/bibl/Z7WDRW4G, where he also raises the possibility of the fragment’s Qaraite provenance; see above). The authors also argue that the Hebrew-script fragment was transcribed from an Arabic-script exemplar, citing as proof the translations of 6:15 and 8:14. On pp. 12–13 the authors offer some general observations contrasting Qaraite Bible translations with those of Saadiah Gaon.
