The delay in publication also prevented the Complutensian Polyglot from being considered the first polyglot Bible printed. The Psalterium Octaplum of Agostino Giustiniani, a book of Psalms in five languages printed and published in 1516, thus claimed this place of honor. According to a note to Ps 78, Giustiniani was assisted by Jacobus Furnius, for the column, and Baptista Cigala, for the Arabic column. The Psalterium Octaplum was issued in two thousand copies, fifty of which were printed on vellum. It was intended to test the potential market for an entire Bible in various languages, but the trial was not a successful one: it led to financial disaster, since the printing failed to sell in large numbers.
