The text is given synoptically in two different versions. The first is taken from MS: Nablus, Samaritan Synagogue, 6, the oldest dated Samaritan manuscript containing an Arabic translation, and is accompanied by variant readings from nine MSS. Together, these manuscripts constitute what the editor defines as the Old Type of the Samaritan Arabic translation. All of them, with the exception of MS: London, British Library, Or. 1450, are written in Samaritan characters, but have been transliterated into Arabic for the edition. The other version is the revised text of Abū Saʿīd (which was transmitted mainly in Arabic characters) with MS: Paris, Bibliothèque Nationale, Ar. 5 as the main text and variants form a total of eleven MSS. A smaller apparatus for each of the two main texts shows the readings that have been emended by the editor. The foreword, given in Arabic, Hebrew and, somewhat abridged, in English, also serves as an introduction and usage guide. It is very terse, though, and does not provide information on many of the more intricate details of the editorial policy.
