In this article, these passages are tabulated from MS: Berlin, Staatsbibliothek, Or. Oct. 1108 and compared with the Georgian canonarion, which is another source of the old Jerusalemite lectionary. It is argued that the calendar in the Arabic sources is more primitive than that of the Georgian canonarion. Since the Gregorian canonarion showed a stage of the Jerusalemite liturgy in use shortly after the Islamic conquest of Palestine and since the Arabic sources make no mention of Carnival Sunday (instituted by Heraclius after his victorious Persian campaign), Baumstark argues that these rubrics are evidence of a pre-Islamic Arabic translation of the Gospels.
